Less than weeks to Nigeria’s presidential election, a 45-second video clip started making the rounds on social media, especially on WhatsApp groups, with a claim that the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be marrying a new wife.

The video, which has Tinubu’s picture and a lady claimed to be Khadija Abubakar Bawa Wagini, the bride, was to serve as a wedding invitation letter to Nigerians to the wedding party said to be held at Katsina Central Mosque on the 18th of February.

The voice-over on the short video was a feminine voice speaking in Hausa language with a subtitle in English language. The Hausa language is spoken by majority in the North West Katsina State

Furthermore, the content of the video claimed Katsina State Governor, RT Hon. Aminu Beloo Masari would be the bride’s representative; Kano State Governor, Alh. Abdullai Umar Ganduje, groom representative, and Alh. Dahiru Bara’u Mangal would be the chief host.

“This is an invitation to those who did not receive it. God has given power to come”, the video jingle concluded.

A blog, Gistcent.com also published a new story about the trending video. The blog attributed the source of the video to a Twitter user, one Jackson Ude (@jacksonpbn), who posted the video on 11th of February.

“This is your official invitation to Bola Tinubu’s wedding holding in Kastina State!

Shebi una say na fake news? Ndi Ara!”, the Twitter user wrote.

The post has garnered over 99 retweets, 31 quote tweets and 117 likes.

Through the profile of the Twitter user, FactCheck Elections observed that the tweep could be a supporter of the opposition presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

FactCheckElections observed that the “news” that the APC flag bearer has no credible source.

Also, no post could be found about the claim in the viral on the verified Twitter handle of the APC flag bearer. Rather, Tinubu posted a video to canvas for votes from Nigerians.

The camp of the APC presidential candidate, also disowned the viral video clip.

Reacting to the viral video, a coordinator of BAT lawyers and APC youth leader in Ogun state, Habeeb Whyte said the viral video clip is to distract APC supporters.

“It is a pure lie sir”, Barr Whyte said. “This is an attempt by detractors to change narratives. Asiwaju does not need to marry from the North to get votes or supporters.”

FactCheckElections can confirm that the viral video clip claiming that the presidential candidate of APC is marrying a new wife from Katsina State is false. The video is fabricated and misleading.
