A facebook page, Osun Pathfinder Gist, reported that Rt. Hon Lasun Yusuf Suleiman, the Governorship aspirant for Osun Labour Party has dropped his ambition and declared support for Ademola Adeleke, the PDP candidate in the state.
The claim is false.
In the early hours of Saturday, Rt. Hon Lasun Yusuf started trending on Facebook following a post by a Facebook page, Osun Pathfinder Gist that Lasun has withdrawn from the Governorship race and declared support for Ademola Adeleke, the PDP candidate in Osun.
The post since surfacing online has been largely shared by many users. It has garnered more than 70 likes, 26 comments and six shares.
Checks by factcheck Elections reveals that none of the reputable media houses has reported the news that Lasun withdrew from the race.
In a separate telephone interview, Wole Oladimeji, the media aide to Lasun, the claim and explained that it is one of the strategies devised by the oppositions to gather more votes.
“It’s a figment of their own imagination. That is the normal thing they normally do just to gather support.
“Where would he have done it? I am his media spokesperson. That is their strategy. It could be APC, it could be PDP. That’s their strategy just to gather more support.
“If he (Hon. Lasun) wants to declare that his people should go so-so place, he would have held a meeting with them. There is nothing like that. It’s just a figment of their own imagination. There is nothing like that,” he confirmed.
