A broadcast message has been circulating on social media platforms with a claim that the president, Muhammadu Buhari ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to raid the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s house.

The claim further stated that a sum of N400 billion of new naira notes was recovered from his underground house during the raid.

A broadcast message has been circulating on social media platforms claiming that the president, Mohammed Buhari ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to raid the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s house and 400 billion new naira notes was recovered from his underground house.

The post reads, “Breaking News: President Mohammed Buhari has ordered EFCC to raid Tinubu’s house and 400 billion of new money was recovered from his underground house.

“Investigations are still ongoing as to which bank manager made such money accessible to him, Tinubu holding 400 billion alone is likely holding the entire money printed for the whole Nigeria.

Verification

To verify the information, ‎FactCheckElections did a google search and discovered that no reputable news platform had published such information on their websites.

The EFCC has also denied and described the circulating information as fake through it’s official Twitter account.

The commission stated that it did not raid the home of the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

EFCC also said it did not retrieve any N400 billion either from the candidate or his residence.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren.

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a report circulating in the social media, claiming that operatives of the Commission raided the home of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress(APC)  in the forthcoming presidential elections and recovered a humongous sum of N400 billion.” The statement reads

FactCheckElections can conclude that the broadcast message claiming that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Party, Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s house and N400 billion of new naira notes was retrieved from his underground house during the raid is FALSE.
