Last May, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) announced Aishatu “Binani” Dahiru as the winner of the governorship primary in the Northeastern state of Adamawa, making her the only female flagbearer of any mainstream party in the governorship and state assembly elections.

The 51-year-old politician could also make history as the first elected female governor in Africa’s largest democracy on Saturday when only 24 of the 416 candidates vying for office are women.

Verification

We searched the websites of major news outlets in Nigeria and found no credible report to support the claim that Dahiru has been elected as the governor of Anambra state.

However, findings by FactcheckElections revealed that the collation of the governorship election result in the state has not been concluded. The local government result collations have been postponed till noon because some thugs invaded the collation centers.

Conclusion

The claim that Binani has been elected as the governor of Adamawa state and is the first female governor to be elected is FALSE. The collation of the results is not yet concluded in the state as of the time of filing this report.
