Dino Melaye, a former Kogi West Senator and the spokesperson for the Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council claimed in a post on Facebook that the presidential election result uploaded to the IReV portal for the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State is different from what the INEC announced during the final collation in the state.
According to him, the Labour Party (LP) originally got 70,186 votes, and the All progressives Congress (APC) got 12,547, but “INEC announced 80,239 for APC and 3,829 [votes] for LP”.
“Imagine this INEC magic,” he wrote.
Verification
Checks by FactCheckElections on INEC result viewing portal revealed that the polling unit results for Obio/Akpor Local Government Area had not been fully uploaded as at press time.
The LGA has 17 wards with different numbers of polling units. We discovered that only the results for 3 wards had been fully uploaded to the portal, while the remaining 14 wards which are at different stages of upload were yet to be completed.
The three wards are Rumuokwu (2B) (Ward: 03), Rumuodomaya (3A), Ward 4; and Rumueme (7C), Ward 11.
Conclusion
FactCheckElections can conclude the claim is misleading. Since the results from the IReV portal are yet to be completely uploaded, it is impossible for him to have gotten his figure from the portal as claimed.
