A Twitter page @Lagospedia claimed earlier today 1st April that the Lagos State Government (LASG) abolishes all eze ndigbo titles in the state with immediate effect and it warns all Lagos state local government chairmen to be on alert.
The tweet has already blown up as at the time of this report, it has over 249k reactions, 454 comments, 1065 retweets and 2,269 likes.
Eze ndigbo translates to Igbo king. Some hours earlier, there are reports of the arrest of the Eze Ndigbo, Ajao Estate of the state for the release of a video calling for an invasion of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, into Lagos for the protection of Igbo properties, especially, in markets across the state.
Boldly making the proclamation he said:
“IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilize for that. We have to do that. We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning, and the afternoon.
Verification
Findings by fact-check elections showed no publication of such news across all official social media pages of the State government.
A report by Vanguard however debunked the news of the abolishment by contacting the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who was reported to have said, “It seems like April fool. Let’s ignore it now.”
Conclusion
No! The claim is false! The state commissioner for information and strategy debunked the news saying “it seems like April fool, let’s ignore it”
