Fact Check: Did Portable Graduated From Kwara Poly?

Claim

A Twitter user Mubarak @MubarakAlao claimed that controversial artiste Habib Okiiola, popularly known as Portable attended Kwara State Polytechnic “Portable is educated, he attended Kwara state polytechnic, he is just acting wrongly because of fame,” he tweeted. 

 

Verdict

No! Popular singer, Portable did not attend Kwara state polytechnic.

Following the arrest warrant given by the Inspector General of the Police, Usman Baba to the Lagos police commissioner, Abiodun Alabi to investigate the indigenous artiste, Portable over the claim that he founded an armed robbery gang, “One Million Boys” terrorizing some parts of Lagos state, Nigerians react to the order.

Though, this is not the first time that Portable would be making the headline for the wrong reasons. It started with a viral feud with Poco Lee, over his first hit song, Zazuu Zeh due to the alleged stealing of money given to him by Nigerian Grammy winner, Wizkid during his performance with Olamide at the Livespot X festival.

Similarly, the organizers of the Headies Award had also threatened to disqualify Portable for threatening to kill co-nominees in its 2022 edition if he did not emerge victorious in the category he was shortlisted for. Portable was nominated to contest in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories when The Headies unveiled the nominees.

Verification

A simple online search of the term “Portable Biography” turned up reputable media outlet like NewswireNGR, Premium Times and BBC that has worked on this fast-growing musician biography. Several other links that point to his biography are also available on the Internet.

The search revealed that Habeeb Okikiola, Portable was born on March 12, 1994. The 27-year-old Ogun-based singer stumbmled into fame with the release of his hit song, Zazuu Zeh which gradually grew into fans’ favorite song.

Portable grew up in Abeokuta with his family before moving to Sango-Otta a city very closer to Lagos state. He is a father of two sons.

These reports also shows that the singer was unable to finish high school thereby confirming that he didn’t further his education into tertiary institution. His source of income is songwriting, rapping & Brand Ambassadorship offers.
