An invitation card purportedly from the Lagos State government has been circulating on social media.

According to the invitation letter, the event which is said to be organised by Chief Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, the executive chairman of Chisco group of companies and Mr Allen Onyema, chairman/CEO of Air Peace — is a dinner and one-on-one interaction with the executive governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Igbo captains of industry. 

A Twitter user Chudé @chude_ also posted the invitation letter with the caption: 

Sanwoo Olu don Dey Organize Dinner with Ndi Igbo.

 

No more “Go back to Anambra”??

The tweet has so far garnered 2,393 retweets, 234 quote tweets and over 5k likes as at press time. 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday announced LP’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi as the winner of the presidential election held in Lagos state.

Obi polled a total of 582,354 votes to defeat Tinubu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) who got a total of 572,606 votes. 

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) garnered 75,750 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Adewole Adebayo of Social Democratic Party (SDP) had 8,442 and 772 respectively.

Verification 

The viral invitation letter has been dismissed by the media aides of the Lagos State governor.

The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat posted the invitation letter and tagged it fake news. 

 

In the same vein, the Chief Press Secretary to governor Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosile also posted the invitation card with the tag fake news and captioned it “Kindly disregard this fakery flying around.”  

Conclusion

FactCheckElections can conclude that invitation is fake as it did not emanate from the Lagos state government.
