Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti state claimed that Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost his Ward and Local Government to another party.
In a series of tweet on Monday, Fayose who is also a supporter of the G5 governors commended Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and berated the PDP for failing to take steps to address the crisis within the party which led to the setup of the G5 group.
“Obviously knew this was going to be the outcome and possibly the end of their arrogance and sense of entitlement, especially bearing in mind they were the 2015 traitors.” He tweeted in part.
The two term governor of Ekiti state also took a swipe at Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman whom he described as ‘Almighty’. He added that Ayu lost his Ward and Local Government to another party after cashing out like a man struck and stock with poverty.
'Almighty’ Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman even lost his Ward and Local Government to another party after cashing out like a man struck and stock with poverty.
As it is now, PDP turning around to cry foul has no place with Nigerians. Not at all.— Peter Ayodele Fayose (@GovAyoFayose) February 27, 2023
Verification
FactCheckElections did a Google search and found out a news report on Tribune stating that the PDP National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has delivered his Mkovur market polling unit in Ipav district Gboko LG for his presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
According to the report, Atiku scored 190 votes to defeat the All Progressive Congress and Labour Party presidential candidates with seven and four votes, respectively.
However, Ayu failed to win his Gboko Local Government for his party. According to the results, APC won the Local Government with 35,149 votes, as LP came second with 18,615 votes while Ayu’s PDP came third with 13,901 votes.
The APC would go on to win the presidential election in Benue with 310,468 votes, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) who got 308,372 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the other hand secured 130,081 votes, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 4,740 votes.
Conclusion
FactCheckElections can conclude that Fayose’s claim is misleading. While Ayu won his ward he failed to deliver his local government and the entire state for his party.
